How counting works
A word is a sequence of letters or digits; hyphenated words and contractions count as one. The counter understands Unicode, so Hindi (देवनागरी), Tamil, Bengali and other Indian scripts are counted correctly, including the । (purna viram) as a sentence ending. Characters are counted as they're displayed, so an emoji counts as one.
Keyword density
Keyword density is how often a word appears as a percentage of all words. Common filler words are excluded. There's no magic target — modern search engines reward natural writing — but if one term is well above 2–3%, your text may read as repetitive.

How are words counted?
A word is any run of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Hyphenated words and contractions like "well-known" and "don't" count as one word. Hindi and other Indian scripts are counted correctly too.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of 238 words per minute; speaking time assumes 150 words per minute, a typical presentation pace.
What are common character limits?
Google typically shows about 50–60 characters of a title and 155–160 of a meta description. X (Twitter) allows 280 characters per post, and SMS messages are 160 characters (70 when they contain Hindi or other Unicode text).
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser as you type; your text is never uploaded or saved.
