How to Add a Watermark to a PDF (Protect Your ID Copies)

A watermark marks every page of a PDF — as a draft, as confidential, or with the purpose it was shared for. It's one of the simplest ways to protect identity documents you have to share.
Step by step
- Open the watermark tool and choose your PDF.
- Type the text — e.g.
CONFIDENTIAL,DRAFTorFor bank KYC only · 25-09-2026. - Set the size, colour, angle and transparency. Choose a single watermark or a repeated pattern across the page.
- Download the watermarked PDF. The file never leaves your device.
A good watermark for ID copies
- State who it's for and why — “For XYZ Bank account opening only”.
- Add the date, so an old copy can't be passed off as new.
- Repeat it and make it semi-transparent (about 20–30% opacity) so the details stay readable but the mark covers the document.
- The watermark font supports English letters, numbers and common symbols — write the text in English.

Frequently asked questions
Why watermark copies of my Aadhaar or PAN?
A watermark that states the purpose and date — e.g. 'For HDFC home loan KYC, 25-09-2026' — makes it harder for anyone to reuse the copy for something else.
Can someone remove the watermark?
A determined person with editing software can sometimes remove text watermarks. A repeated, semi-transparent watermark across the page is much harder to remove cleanly.
